I had medium expectations, however all have turned out acceptably. :)
My most recent experiments used my crockpot, which was extremely easy, turned out very well, and saved fuel/money.
All runs were between one hour and 1.5 hours at Low, and were tolerant of inattention (i.e. no risk of burning). :)
This time, with fewer ingredients, I ate 4 medium meals over 3 days.
Beans, corn, and both cheeses in insert pot:
After heating, ready to eat:
item | Calories | Protein | Cost |
---|---|---|---|
refried beans (15.2oz,430g) | 418 | 24 g | $0.80 |
melting cheese, nacho (8oz,227g) | 605 | 16 g | $1.00 |
shredded cheese (160g) | 629 | 34 g | $1.41 |
corn, whole kernel (15.25oz,432g) | 242 | 7 g | $0.67 |
tortilla chips (192g) | 1029 | 14 g | $0.92 |
Totals: | 2,923 | 95 g | $4.80 |
I made four (4) medium meals (1 each for 2 days then 2 in 1 day) out of the above,
for an average cost of $1.20,
each averaging 731 calories and 24 grams of protein.
These were not as satisfying as the "loaded" nachos, however they were easy and more than acceptable.
All items were either on sale, or at the very low end of their price ranges.
