My first summer in my van, I'd regularly use a local Library's wifi,
and a neighbor would often grill hotdogs.
The aroma was amazing... and distracting. :)
Ever since then, I've wanted to cook some hotdogs in my van, but the timing never worked out, until last week. :)
I was doing a supply run, so could get both hotdogs & ice, and temperatures were forecast to be cool to cold.
Bonus: there was a sunny day so I could make a large batch of semi carmelized onions in my crockpot. :)
A couple of weeks before, there had been a sale on hotdog buns, and I had carefully resisted using them.
I pan fried the hotdogs, and the aroma was somewhat disappointing.
Fortunately, the crockpot onions had produced an excellent & prolonged aroma. :)
Two hotdogs split & flattened, and onions, ready to pan fry:
After frying (hotdogs flipped):
Assembled in hotdog buns, ready to eat, with a side of kettle potato chips:
item | Calories | Cost (actual) | Cost (Walmart) |
---|---|---|---|
hot dogs (2) | 260 | $0.50 | $0.37 |
buns (2) | 280 | $0.25 | $0.28 |
onions | 35 | $0.09 | $0.11 |
Totals: | 575 | $0.84 | $0.76 |
Numbers are for a serving size of 2 hot dogs, with 1 bun each, and about a half a yellow onion.
I usually buy onions at the gas station chain Kwik Trip which normally lossleaders them for @$0.49/lb.
I did not measure the potato chips, nor the mustard, so did not include either.
