Pampa brand Potato Gnocchi is regularly available at most Dollar Trees,
and is featured in many YouTube pseudo-frugal videos.
I finally got around to trying it, and have found it to be an easy base for a
vegetarian meal.
The package, and Nutrition info & Ingredients:
I had medium expectations, based on the YouTube hype,
and was initially somewhat disappointed.
These are very bland, however that does make them a good base for more flavorful ingredients,
and so far I've used them exclusively with leftover items, which has worked out well. :)
Example meal:
Potato Gnocchi with grilled onions, salsa, corn, and sour cream
This product is shelf stable, so is an easy way to have a bit more variety than regular pasta.
I'm now stocking about one package, and may increase that to two.
Note that these do require much more water than sparse water pasta, and I have not yet figured out a use for the heavily starched leftover water, so it is not a good match for many austere scenarios.
The package costs $1.25 and has 800 calories,
so the cost per calorie-day(man) is $3.13
($2.66 per woman-calorie-day),
which is reasonably frugal.
There's no noteworthy nutritional perk, nor is there anything "bad".
